About us

Supporters

DVC is a local transport scheme run by volunteers using their own cars.
Could you spare a little time to drive for us?

WHO DO WE NEED?
Car owner/drivers who are able to spare some time during the week and occasional weekends to transport our clients to and from their destinations.

DO YOU HAVE?
A clean driving license, a roadworthy and fully insured vehicle plus a little patience and a sense of humour

HOW OFTEN DO YOU GET CALLED ON?
This varies week by week depending on driver availability.  You are not committed to specific days unless you wish.

WHY DO IT?

  • Driving for DVC offers the chance to combine a very rewarding and much appreciated service to the local community with other commitments.
  • Drivers are able to accept or decline each request when contacted by the DVC office staff,
  • As a volunteer there is no monetary reward but there is a donation based on the mileage travelled from and to the driver’s home.  This is given by the client to the driver at the end of each journey.
  • DVC uses the HMRC rate per mile to calculate the cost of each trip. This covers fuel and the extra running costs whilst volunteering.

CAN YOU HELP? – in the Office
Our Volunteer Office staff are crucial to the successful operation of the DVC transport service.
All requests for transport from our 400+ clients are made by telephone and logged onto our desktop computer each weekday morning by our office staff.

Can you?

  • Use a  computer
  • Speak in a clear and friendly way on the telephone.
  • Be available from 9.45 to 12.15 one morning per week to assist in/staff the office.
  • Listen patiently to those with hearing and communication difficulties and record their transport requests accurately.
  • Attend training sessions to learn how to use our computer booking system. It is very straightforward and easy to operate.

This can be a very rewarding experience for those who like problem solving and helping older members of the local community.

Do ring the office if you are interested. We’ll be happy to answer your questions and give you more information
